Marisa Anne Tsikitas

Artist and Painter

About Marisa Anne Tsikitas

Marisa Tsikitas currently lives in Haddon Heights, NJ. Tsikitas started painting at age 11 under the instruction of artist Sallie Paris. Tsikitas attributes her "sense of color" to the early teaching of Ms. Paris. While Tsikitas attended Camden Catholic High School she went to Moore College of Art for classes in figure drawing, painting, jewelry design, and ceramics. Tsikitas discovered her true passion for painting at Moore.

Tsikitas attended Mason Gross School of the Arts for her undergraduate studies. She majored in Fine Art with a Concentration in Painting and graduated in 2003 from MGSA, Rutgers University, with a BFA in Fine Arts. While attending MGSA, Tsikitas studied under many talented artists. Some of these artists included Paul Bloodgood, Maureen Gallace, Thomas Nozkowski, Martha Rosler, and Roger Balm. Tsikitas considers Tom Nozkowski to be her greatest mentor and teacher. Under his instruction, Tsikitas feels she truly "discovered her own style" as a painter. At age 20, Tsikitas started showing her work at Arts Plus Gallery in Collingswood, NJ. She has had five solo exhibits at Arts Plus.

Before graduating in 2003, Tsikitas was selected along with other undergraduates, graduate students, and distinguished MGSA alumni for a group art exhibit "Off the Top" at Bill Maynes Gallery in New York City. The show was curated by art critic, Sid Sachs. At the second private gallery opening, Tsikitas was introduced to art critic, Jerry Saltz (Village Voice, The New Yorker). Saltz critiqued Tsikitas' "Kitchen" painting.

Tsikitas is working on many projects and private commissions. Collages and paintings can be ordered through the artist directly- see contact page for more information.
